This post will provide detailed instructions on how to opt-in to use Okoa Stima and access all the available services.
How to Opt-In to Okoa Stima:
To opt in to Okoa Stima, follow these simple steps:
- Dial *885# on your phone and accept the Okoa Stima terms and conditions.
- Enter your National ID.
- Set your preferred PIN and confirm it.
- You will receive a confirmation message via SMS. Select continue.
- Enter your Services PIN.
- Select “register meter/account” and then select “register new.”
- Select either Prepaid or Postpaid, depending on your preferred payment option.
- Enter your meter or account number and submit.
Note: You can register up to three (3) Pre-Pay or Post-Pay accounts.
How to Pay Your Kenya Power Bill Using Okoa Stima:
To pay your Kenya Power bill using Okoa Stima, follow these steps:
- Dial *885# and enter your PIN.
- Select Post-Pay.
- Select your registered account, and the bill on that account will be automatically displayed.
- Select “pay bill via M-PESA.”
- Select “pay in full” or “part-payment,” and enter the amount you want to pay. Then submit.
How to Buy Tokens Using Okoa Stima:
If you have already registered your account, you can easily buy tokens using Okoa Stima. Follow these steps:
- Dial *885# and enter your PIN.
- Select Pre-Paid.
- Select the meter you want to buy tokens for.
- Your M-PESA account will be automatically deducted for the amount of tokens you purchase.
- You will receive confirmation messages from M-PESA and Kenya Power regarding your payment.
How to Request an Okoa Stima on Pre-Pay:
If you need to top up your Pre-Pay meter in an emergency, you can use Okoa Stima to request a loan. Here’s how:
- Dial *885# and enter your PIN.
- Select Pre-Paid.
- Select Okoa Stima.
- Select “request emergency top up.”
- Select the meter you want to top up.
- Choose from preset Okoa amounts ranging from Ksh.100 to Ksh.1000, and confirm your selection.
- You will receive an SMS confirmation for Okoa Stima with a token, which you can then load onto your meter.
How to Request an Okoa Stima on Post-Pay:
To request an Okoa Stima on Post-Pay, follow these steps:
- Dial *885# and enter your PIN.
- Select Post-Paid.
- Select the account you want to top up, and the bill on that account will be automatically displayed.
- Select Okoa Stima and follow the prompts to request the top-up.
How to Repay an Okoa Stima on Pre-Pay:
If you have an outstanding Okoa Stima loan on your Pre-Pay meter, you can easily repay it through Okoa Stima. Here’s how:
- Dial *885# and enter your PIN
- Select Pre-Paid.
- Select Okoa Stima.
- Select “repay Okoa Stima” (if there is an outstanding loan).
- Select either “full payment” or “part payment,” and enter the amount you want to pay.
- If you choose partial payment, you will receive a notification message with your remaining balance. If you choose full payment, you will receive a notification that the amount will be deducted from your M-PESA account
If I request a loan of Ksh 1,000, how much will I receive and how much will I pay back?
Okoa Stima charges a facility fee of 10% of the value of the top up, meaning you will receive tokens worth 10% less than the amount you requested. For example, if you request KShs. 1,000, you will receive a top up worth KShs. 900, with KShs. 100 retained as a facilitation fee.
What is the minimum amount I can borrow?
The minimum amount you can borrow is Ksh. 100.
What is the maximum amount I can borrow?
The maximum amount you can borrow is KShs. 1,000 for Pre-Pay meters and KShs. 2,500 for Post-Pay meters.
What is the duration for repayment?
The top up is payable within 7 days. However, you can repay the top up before the due date and borrow again if needed.
When I request a top up, how do I get the units/Post-Pay electricity?
The amount you request will be sent to you as a token (for Pre-Pay accounts) or used to clear your Post-Pay bill at Kenya Power.
